Adult Preventative Dental Care
A preventative dental care plan is an important part of your overall health. Proper brushing, flossing and regular cleanings can help you avoid cavities and gum disease while keeping your teeth strong and white.
Cleanings
Regular cleanings and hygiene exams in our office are an essential part of keeping your teeth and gums healthy. Regular oral hygiene contributes to your overall health. Most patients will be scheduled to see a hygienist and have a dental exam twice a year. Maintaining optimal oral health requires these appointments to remove built up tartar and plaque from your teeth. Some patients will need more frequent cleanings if periodontal disease is present. Ask your hygienist to show you the condition of your teeth and health of your gums during your appointment. We can share intraoral camera photos with you so you can see what we see!
Home Care Steps to Good Oral Health
Quality home care greatly reduces the chance you will experience dental issues that require more involved and costly treatment. Brushing and flossing techniques your hygienist can teach you will help keep your mouth healthy and disease-free.
- Eat healthy foods that are low in sugar
- Brush and floss 2 minutes twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste
- Use a mouthwash or rinse regularly
- Schedule and keep appointments for routine cleanings
- Get fluoride treatments especially if your water is unfluoridated
- Have dental sealants applied to your back teeth
Oral Cancer Screenings
Maintaining your regularly scheduled visits at Conway Village Dental allows us to monitor and alert you to any abnormalities we might see in your mouth. Regular oral cancer screenings increase your chances of successful treatment should anything be cancerous.
According to the American Dental Association, 41,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral and throat cancers this year. Your dental care provider is the first line of defense in early detection. We provide an annual cancer screening for every patient.
Digital Xrays
We are proud to offer our patients the latest in state of the art dental technology including digital xrays and 3D imaging. Digital xrays provide many advantages for our patients including better diagnostic capabilities, interactive digital diagnostics and a 90% reduction in radiation exposure.
The dental cone beam, or 3D CBCT, is a 3D imaging machine that can make a unique type of x-ray when we need to see more than traditional xrays show. The CBCT uses software and technology to generate 3 dimensional images of your dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone. Our doctors use these images for more precise treatment planning.
Night Guard
According to the American Dental Association (ADA) teeth grinding, or bruxism, can be caused not just by stress and anxiety, but also by sleep disorders. The symptoms of teeth grinding include:
- dull headaches
- jaw and facial muscle soreness
- teeth that are painful or loose
- fractured teeth
When our doctors see signs and symptoms of bruxism we recommend a customized night guard to protect your teeth while you sleep. This is a comfortable and effective way to alleviate symptoms and minimize damage to your teeth and jaw.
